My first post here is to introduce myself, so let me begin with;
Hi, my name is Lena! I am from Southern Manitoba and I'm a doula practicing in Morden, Winkler, Carman and surrounding areas like Miami, Plum Coulee and Roland. I support home births in South Central Manitoba as well as hospital births at Boundary Trails Health Centre. I lived the first 23 years of my life in Morden, MB. My friends, family and clients describe me as; observant, compassionate, approachable and motivated by my curiosity and doing justice by my clients. I like to believe that I have many different facets of my personality that shine brightly depending on the scenario; in casual one-on-one conversations and consultations I love to laugh, speak philosophically and understand why people are who they are.
My spouse's name is Sascha, we are high school sweethearts (est. 2015) and have since welcomed our two beautiful children that I dreamt about for many years prior to their arrival. As well; I love travelling, seeing the world and engaging in new cultures and have done so extensively throughout East and West Asia, Europe and Latin America.
Care that meets the needs and desires of the client through the holistic as well as through the medical lens from womb until tomb (and anywhere in-between) is a sphere I'm passionate about and has been one of the main motivations behind my work. As a doula I care deeply about serving my clients well and helping to bridge gaps and provide knowledge to help move labour and birth along smoothly. A repertoire of coping strategies for pain, contractions, exhaustion, pushing as well as breastfeeding and lactation advice should you decide to nurse for any duration is something that I have curated studied carefully. I am comfortable and confident in advocating for the desires of my clients and asking key questions as well as working together to process and persevere with confidence of necessity if or when changes in plans arise. My ethos is that birth without fear is possible, even when things do not go as expected and that your fear can be erased when it is faced head on with support in all corners.
Quality care that I received from my doula and midwife as well as an invitation to support my best friend through her birth spoke to my soul, and while becoming a birth doula and postpartum doula is a new endeavour it is an old idea for me, beginning back when I was young and finally coming to fruition as my confidence in my abilities, knowledge and skill has made itself apparent. I'm excited to deliver my services in Southern Manitoba as I see this area as the vibrant heart of the prairies with more and more people from all walks of life that I feel deserve the support that doulas can offer.
